In Rome today on the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the city, Pope Francis blessed 34 palliums — woolen bands worn over the shoulders — to be given to the 34 archbishops appointed during the past year.
Although under normal circumstances all the archbishops would have been invited to concelebrate the Mass with the Pope, due to coronavirus restrictions, only 12 of them were in attendance. (link)
Francis also received a delegation from Greek Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, in sign of the continuing efforts of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches to draw closer together nearly 1,000 years after the Great schism of 1054 A.D.
