“My brother Bishops and sisters and brothers of the Churches of Asia, thank you for the witness of your lives,” says Cardinal Charles Bo of Yangon, Myanmar, who while remembering the great challenges for their continent, remembers: “The suffering of the Rohingya people is a scar on the soul of my own country.”

The President of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) underscored this in an Oct. 12 statement for the Church and Bishops in Asia which His Eminence has provided to ZENIT English, as he reacts to the Holy Father’s third encyclical Fratelli Tutti on Human Fraternity and Social Friendship published last week in the Vatican.

Myanmar is emerging from decades of military rule after Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party won the 2015 elections and subsequently took office.
