Biden and Trump vie for Catholic votes, disagree on what issues take priority

As both the Biden and Trump presidential campaigns court Catholic voters, both campaigns have made efforts to suggest they represent a commitment to Catholic social teaching. But there are marked differences between the candidates’ approaches on issues Catholics say are important to them in the voting booth, especially abortion.

President Donald Trump has received praise for the U.S. bishops’ conference (USCCB) for some of his policies, and criticism for other policies.

A tip for making forgiveness easier (24 Sunday of Ordinary Time)

Forgiving others can be extremely difficult. In today’s Gospel (Matthew 18:21-35), Jesus tells us how important it is to forgive. We must forgive not 7 times but 77 times! In addition, by means of a parable, Jesus gives us a tip or method for how to make forgiveness easier: the more we remind ourselves of the mercy and forgiveness God and others have shown us, the easier it becomes to forgive.

Sunday Musical Selection: Mendelsshon’s Violin Concerto in E Minor

Mendelsshon wrote his final great symphonic work in the mid-19th century, first published in 1844, and performed the year after, taking six years to complete this masterpiece, one of the most frequently played in the violin repertoire. It is a sublime, technically superior work.

The subtitle for this piece is a ‘play along’, with the notes transcribed beneath Hilary Hahn’s near-miraculous playing – as one commentator put it, ‘the fourth finger vibrato!’. No mere mortal – by that, I mean a regular violin player – could keep up with her arpeggios. I could barely keep up just watching the notes. Listen along and see, and hear:
