The Episcopal Commission for Migrants and Itinerant People (CEMI) has expressed its desire to make visible the vulnerable situation of refugees and migrants, in a message for World Refugee Day, celebrated on 20 June. The Bishops that make up this Commission have invited people, social associations, companies, and the government sector to “look at this reality and to take measures in favor of this population, now and in the post-pandemic phase”.
In relation to the period “after” the health crisis, they stressed that migrants and refugees “will need all our support, to rebuild a dignified life, especially in economic and working terms, especially for those who have lost their bread, their roof, and job”.
Argentina for many years, despite the unstable economic situation, has become the destination of many Bolivian workers and Paraguayan and Brazilian farmers. Currently, migrants are a considerable number in Latin American and unfortunately, they are also a vulnerable population. According to data from international agencies, there are approximately 2,300,000 migrants in Argentina, equivalent to almost 5 percent of the population of this country.
