Connecting the Dots

I was sitting in Mass one day and three women and a child were in front of me.  I noticed they started sort of huddling together and then I realized they were passing around hand sanitizer before receiving Holy Communion.

I get that.

But, what was so very sad to me was that they were doing all of this fussing, which included a quiet exchange about the smell of the sanitizer, during the Lamb of God prayer.

King of Thieves and King of the Universe – A Homily for the Solemnity of Christ the King

Jesus Christ is King of Thieves, though He never stole. He is savior of sinners, though He never sinned.

Today’s Gospel chosen presents Jesus as reigning from the cross. Nothing could be more paradoxical. Let’s look at it from four perspectives:

Vision –Today’s Gospel presents a vision or image of the Church.We like to think of more pleasant images: the Church is the Bride of Christ or the Body of Christ. Today’s image is more humbling to be sure: the Church is Christ, crucified between two thieves.

Diocesan Anniversary

Monday, November 25 is the feast day of our patroness, St. Catherine of Alexandria. On that day mass will be celebrated parishes through the Diocese with great joy and solemnity. Special Diocesan Anniversary Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, 5:30 pm at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria.

“Jesus, my friend, remember me when you come into your kingdom”

Christ the King Homily  (Printer Friendly Copy of  the Dismas Stations of the Cross) 

Today is the last Sunday of what we call Ordinary time and the Church has designated it the Solemnity of Christ the King.

Our parish Mission statement which we have been reflecting on for the past while and will be our focus in the coming year challenges us to bring God’s love into the world through a life changing friendship with Jesus.
