How important is accreditation?

Accreditation, when done well, is a means by which colleges ensure that other colleges meet appropriate academic standards. Accrediting agencies are supposed to help each college excel according to its own particular mission, and the Newman Guide colleges are more mission-centered than most. Accreditation usually means that a student can apply for U.S. federal student aid (even at certain foreign colleges), as long as the student’s college chooses to participate in federal aid programs.
