Return, rebellious children, says the LORD,
for I am your Master (Jer 3)
God wants us to return to Him, no matter what we have done, no matter how long we have been away from Him. We need not be afraid.
In his Lenten message for 2016, Pope Francis writes: “Mercy expresses God’s way of reaching out to the sinner, offering him a new chance to look at himself, convert, and believe.”
Just as the mercy of God “offers a new chance” for a sinner to “look at himself, convert and believe,” so also fasting offers all believers a new chance to grow
