New Grande Prairie deacon says formation program strengthened his family

Gerald Logan likes to say that his wife Marian brought him back to the Catholic faith of his childhood.
It’s that faith that has led Logan to answer God’s call and become the fourth deacon in the history of Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan — which is nearly three times as large as its Edmonton counterpart.
“It is a sacrifice, but it’s nothing compared to other sacrifices that have been made. We didn’t get nailed to a cross,” said Logan, who was ordained to the permanent diaconate July 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie, north of Edmonton.

Australia could boost funding for Catholic schools with new income ranking

Sydney, Australia, Jul 7, 2018 / 04:50 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Catholic schools in Australia could see an increase of up to $74 million a year from independent schools following a new review proposing better use of data to rank families’ socioeconomic status.

The proposal drew praise from Catholic schools and raised some concerns from independent schools.

Ray Collins, acting executive director of the National Catholic Education Commission, said the commission was “very pleased” that the National School Resourcing Board “has recognized the inherent inequities with the current methodology.” The commission looks forward to “a new approach to ensure fair and equitable funding
