Ann Furse RIP

Thumbnail

Pray for Ann who died this morning. She wanted to be with her Lord, and now he has granted her prayer. She was a tremendous evangelist, she chatted to everyone, especially the poor..She had increasing difficulty in getting Mass but she still came daily, first of by dragging herself up the hill to the Church, holding on to railings, then on a walking frame, then finally in a buggey. Her love of Christ and his Church, of the Sacrament and of the Mass was evident to everyone who knew her.

Christmas Wish List December 10th, 2012 Written by: Amber Miller When we were little, my grandfather was Santa Claus to my sisters, cousins and I. No, he never dressed up in a red suit, nor did I ever hear him roar “ho ho ho!” But every year since I can remember, he always gave the best gifts

YouCat: The Sacraments of Healing

Thumbnail

“Christ’s love is shown in the fact that he seeks the lost and heals the sick.  That is why He gave us the sacraments of healing and restoration, in which we are freed from sin and strengthened in our physical and spiritual weakness.” -YouCat 224The two sacraments we’ll look at today – Reconciliation and the anointing of the sick – are both answers to the ways in which Christ meets us when we are lost or hurting.

Patriarch Sviatoslav Responds to Patriarch Filaret Regarding Baptism in Kyivan Patriarchate

5 November 2012, 15:55 | UOC KP | | | Code for Blog | | The press-service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) published a response of the Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav to the Head of UOC-KP, Patriarch Filaret regarding the position of UGCC on the effectiveness of the Sacrament of baptism in UOC-KP.This official letter was sent by Patriarch Sviatoslav in response to a letter of Patriarch Filaret of 20 October where he addressed the Greek-Catholic Head on behalf of the Holy Synod of UOC-KP with a request to express the official position of UGCC on the Sacrament of Baptism administered by UOC-KP.The response of the Greek Catholic Head says: “As regards the sacrament of Baptism, the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church as a successor of the Kyivan Church observes the Tradition of the undivided Church of the 1st millennium in agreement with the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches in this regard. According to the practices established in the first centuries of Christianity, in accordance with the Apostles’ “Creed,” Dogmas of the Church and Canonical Law of the Eastern Catholic Churches (see Canon 672 of CCEC), we recognize that it is not appropriate to administer the Sacrament of Baptism again if it was once administered effectively.

Stripping of the Ceremonies: a Novus Ordo Problem

Thumbnail

Fr Mark wrote sometime ago agreeing with me on Eucharistic adoration; we both think it is a good thing, we are just worried about it becoming casual, detracting from worship of the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle; but read Father Mark’s rather good article.Recently, he wrote comparing the two different “Forms” of Mass, he speaks about the “latreutic finality of the Mass”, basically what he is saying is that the older form is more evidently about worship, latria, and he gives plenty of practical examples. There are some excellent priests, and even bishops, going around basically saying every problem of today’s Church will be solved by getting the Blessed Sacrament out of the tabernacle and into a monstrance on the altar.

Without Me They Can Do Nothing

Thumbnail

What matters is not what you are thinking or saying[when you are at adoration]for I am pleased and comforted and glorifiedby your simple being with Me.Be present in My presence. This is what I ask of you.So many others among My priests leave Me alone in the Sacrament of My Love. They grow cold, indifferent, and hard-hearted.An hour spent in My presencewould be enough to reinflame their hearts,to move them to gratitude, and to love, and to open their sould to the grace of My Friendship.I ask only that My priests return to My altarsand that they seek Me in the tabernacleswhere I am truly present and waiting for them.So much sin can be avoidedand so many sins repairedby a simple act of loving presence to My Eucharistic Heart.I am here for My priests.I will draw them to My Heart.I will reveal to them the priceless grace of My Divine Friendship. And, from the Sacrament of My Love,I shall renew the face of the priesthood in My Church. The shortage of priests in some placesis caused, not by Me,but by the laxity that has come to prevailand, above all, by the great diminishment of prayerin the hearts and on the lips of my priests.Wheresoever my priests return to prayer, there will I cause a vast harvest of priestly vocations to spring up.I will multiply my priestsjust as I multiplied loaves and fishes to feed the multitude in the desert. When priests forsake prayer, they forsake Me,and so I withdraw My blessing from their labours, and leave them to themselves, for without prayer — without Me –they can do nothing. From In Sinu Iesu, the Journal of a Priest

On the Solemnity of Thursday

Thumbnail

For a long time I have wanted to translate this text of Mother Mectilde de Bar entitled “On the Solemnity of Thursday.” In it, she pours out her soul in a torrent of amazement and thanksgiving and adoration. She sets forth why, in her particular Benedictine observance, Thursday is celebrated as a weekly return to the Cenacle where Our Lord instituted the Sacrament of His Love, and as a weekly festival of Corpus Christi

Your Advocate, Your Comforter, Your Refuge

Thumbnail

In a letter dated 28 February 1882, written from Dundrum, to a friend about to be ordained in Rome, the young Father Joe Marmion (Blessed Columba Marmion) speaks of his own loneliness as a newly ordained priest, and of the temptation to look for compensation, diversion, and gratification in society. “The life of a priest,” he writes, “is very much more lonely than we anticipate
