Evangelization, Discipleship, and the Work of the Catechist

I’m guilty of a woeful consistency: When someone tells me that Child XYZ has bad attendance at religious ed, my response is a persistent, “So what’s going on with the family?” There’s always a story behind the missing child.  There’s a whole family of stories.

Post Pentecost – Recalling the Effects of Confirmation

Thumbnail

There’s a timely reminder in the Catechism of the Catholic Church for this “time” in the liturgical calendar – smack dab between Pentecost and Ordinary Time. And it is this: Pentecost should remind us of our Confirmation!CCC 1302 states: It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.I grew up in a Catholic home and went to a parochial grade school

Easy Pentecost Craft for Kids (And a Pentecost Song!)

Thumbnail

I have seen this craft all over the internet, and I think it’s just about the cutest and easiest craft for kids to make at Pentecost! Also, the kids love it, and it’s a great way to teach them about what happened on the first Pentecost! Here’s the Bible story of the Pentecost from Acts 2, 1-4: “When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together.

I like that Adam thought of stacking these cars … and then he just went ahead and did it.I like how Adam clearly put on his own shoes.I like how the floating pollen/blossoms just make his waterplay more interesting.I like the collection of the sturdy dump truck, the pink girly car, the Weasley car and the shiny red convertible.I like how it looks like Mother Mary is riding in the backseat of the convertible.Bring on summer backyard FUN!

Don’t be a Whiner!

The title of this post must seem a bit strange.  It becomes a bit stranger still when you consider the one telling you not to be a whiner is not me, but Pope Francis! He said it (basically) during his homily on Tuesday, May 7th, while reflecting on today’s first reading from the Book of Acts, Chapter 16, where Paul and Silas are in prison yet they are joyful, even ”singing hymns to God!”  Imagine that!
