May is Time to Start Another Garden!

For my family, gardening has progressed from accidental tomato and papaya plants, to our beautiful bougainvilleas and mini rose bush in Playa del Carmen, to last year’s sunflowers here in Canada, and this year to a shared garden and a more complete house-side garden (instead of the usual flower gardens.)Our elderly neighbour, who can no longer plant her garden alone, as asked me to help her plant and care for her garden, and has offered us the share the vegetables.

Writers-on-Wednesday: Susan May Warren

Because I’m part of Susan May Warren’s kickoff team, I recently had the chance to ask her a few questions about her writing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Take a Chance on Me and I think it’s totally cool that we share the same middle name.

Baby Wants Her Soother (Write Mama Blog Hop Vol. 8)

I love the expression on Jade’s face in the first few seconds after I put her soother in her mouth. Her eyes scowl slightly and her mouth opens in a grimace, as if to say “Why on earth would I want to suck on this plastic thing?” Then, if I hold the soother there, she starts sucking, making the soother squeak and wiggle against her face

Easy Pentecost Craft for Kids (And a Pentecost Song!)

Thumbnail

I have seen this craft all over the internet, and I think it’s just about the cutest and easiest craft for kids to make at Pentecost! Also, the kids love it, and it’s a great way to teach them about what happened on the first Pentecost! Here’s the Bible story of the Pentecost from Acts 2, 1-4: “When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together.

What’s Your Dream Vehicle?

“What do you think of the racing stripes on that car?” my husband asks as we sit at a red light. I scan the intersection until I find the red car with black stripes up over its hood

How Xubuntu Saved a Laptop Abandoned for 2 Years

My original mini, no running on Xubuntu This is my last Xubuntu post, I promise (for now, at least.)I just want to share one more story – how Xubuntu saved a laptop (another mini – Acer Aspire One, very similar to this one) which I had abandoned at a computer repair shop as “burned out” for two years.Lightning Strikes In April 2011 (during the same days when I joined the Catholic Church – completely unrelated, but just happened to be at the same time) my brother was using my first Acer mini up in his bedroom at my parents’ house.

Xubuntu Works Great, But I Had to Choose Better Office Apps

As I’ve been going on about for the past few days, Xubuntu works great. It saved my computer, which was with Windows 7 was simply not worth keeping. There is one point to Xubuntu that is a pro and a con at the same time: it comes with a complete software package – word processor, PDF viewer, web browser, e-mail, photo editor ..

Last week, my husband and I took the girls swimming for the first time since Jade’s birth. Sunshine and Lily have been asking to go for several weeks, especially since they have new water wings and goggles.
