Bishop Thévenot’s Letter re: Cathedral Renovations To all the faithful of the Diocese of Prince Albert,In 1912, a building committee was empowered to construct a new Cathedral for the Diocese of Prince Albert to replace the original building of 1892, which was no longer structurally sound. Construction commenced in 1914 and Bishop Pascal blessed the basement of the new church later that same year.Over the last 100 years, the Sacred Heart Cathedral building and all those it serves has benefited from various renovation projects

Two days into the annual retreat for the priests of our Diocese, I found the answer to a question I didn’t realize I needed to ask.By the retreat’s second day I realized there was something unusually familiar, even comfortable, about the daily masses we celebrate together, and it spilled over into my relationship with the chapel as well. Odd, I thought, since this was the first of these events I had ever attended, and I had never been to this particular retreat house before either.As I reflected on the feeling, I realized that what I was experiencing was a spiritual blast from the past.The retreat marked the first extended period in my priestly life ( one year and counting!

The theme “We Have Seen the Lord – and He is Good” was exemplified by 340 women representing 100 councils attending this weekend filled with Faith (with our beautiful liturgical programs) Fun (by renewing old friendships, making new friends, and let’s not forget the Saturday night entertainment) and Fulfillment (taking part in the resolutions dialogue, listening to guest speakers and executive reports).Opening Liturgy of the Eucharist, held at Holy Rosary, Guelph, was celebrated by the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, OMI, Bishop of Hamilton.

Twenty finalists were selected in December, and only 12 students were offered the scholarship; including Arielle Vetro, a student at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School, in Georgetown.The National Scholarship, which is the University of Toronto’s most prestigious undergraduate admission scholarship, will cover tuition and incidental fees for four years, will provide residence support in the first year, and will include an additional, renewable monetary award.
