The Paragon of True Humility

Thumbnail

Monsignor Guido Marini, the papal master of ceremonies since 2007, needs our prayers. Those who have appreciated the gradual return of visual beauty concerning the papacy know that Monsignor Marini had been Pope Benedict’s right-hand man in this effort.

Rorate Correspondent Dr. Rao, from Rome

Sad to say, you know things are bad when commenters on the election are reduced to praising the new pope for his opposition to sodomite marriage. Will we soon be told that he’s also opposed to exposing unwanted infants on the hillside and flogging pet dogs and cats to death? To paraphrase what Luke’s Gospel shows Our Lord Himself noting, even our enemies frequently exhibit this level of decency

Popes and the Southern Hemisphere – curiosities

Pope Bergoglio is, of course, the first Supreme Pontiff ever born in the southern half of the world , where only about one tenth of the human population lives. This is quite a fast turn of events, historically.

Pray for the Pope through the Dead

RORATE CÆLI: Pray for the Pope through the Dead Rorate Caeli Pray for the Pope through the Dead The following prayer, penned by a very holy and learned priest of the Rorate Caeli Purgatorial Society, calls on all certain members of the Church Suffering – as well as the Church Triumphant — to pray and intercede for him that he may lead the true restoration of the Traditional Latin Mass and liturgy. Please, pray now, and pray fervently:”O Mother of Sorrows, as you held the Body and Blood of your Divine Son upon your breast as His Soul went down among the dead to free them and grant them the Blessed Vision of His Divinity, so assist Holy Church as she bears this same Body and Blood on her altars and entreat your Son to descend again among the dead and free the souls of departed popes and prelates, and the souls of the departed parents, Jesuit brethren, friends, and benefactors of Pope Francis that they might be powerful and grateful intercessors on his behalf that he may be most pleasing to God, helpful to the faithful, and strong against the enemies of Christ’s Mystical Body on earth, and that he may powerfully aid in the restoration of the sacred Liturgy to its ancient beauty and integrity.

First papal visit: The Virgin Salus Populi Romani

Thumbnail

From Reuters:The new Pope leaves Saint Mary Major, Rome (Il Giornale) Pope Francis, barely 12 hours after his election, quietly left the Vatican early on Thursday to pray for guidance at a Rome basilica as he looks to usher a Catholic Church mired in intrigue and scandal into a new age of simplicity and humility. Francis went to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the oldest church in the world dedicated to the Madonna, where he prayed before a famous icon of the Madonna called the Salus Populi Romani, or Protectress of the Roman People

Letter of Cardinal Bergoglio to Carmelites regarding the pending approval of "same sex marriage"

Thumbnail

The bishops of Argentina came late to the political campaign promoted by the Kirchner couple to approve “same sex marriage” in Argentina, almost as if forced by some higher power (the Holy See?), which means that, in the end, they lost it, a first in a Latin-American nation.

So, were Vaticanists right?

Well, most were not. But a few Italian Vaticanists in the past few days did mention Bergoglio, and almost always quoted words from an unnamed Cardinal who took part also in the 2005 Conclave: “‘Four years of Bergoglio would be enough to change things.’” (Andrea Tornielli, La Stampa, March 2, 2013) It was the first time the name of Bergoglio seriously appeared as a contender in this conclave

National Review: "The New Pope and the Old Mass"

Thumbnail

National Review is often the home of George Weigel and other center-right Catholics still mourning the loss of John Paul II. It was surprising, and thus encouraging, to read a post on its website entitled “The New Pope and the Old Mass.”Authored by Nicholas Frankovich, the piece concludes with the following analysis: If Ranjith were Jewish, he would be Orthodox.

Remembering the Pope of Summorum Pontificum

Thumbnail

The middling homily by the current Dean of the College of Cardinals – marked by the very relevant words, “tirelessly promoting justice and peace, the world order” (that is exactly what he pronounced, though the official transcript and translations did not include the words “l’ordine mondiale”) – provided another stark reminder of how much Benedict XVI will be missed. The comparison between this sermon, and that pronounced by the Dean of the College, Cardinal Ratzinger, right before the 2005 Conclave is stunning, as if they came from two completely different churches

Homily of the Mass pro eligendo Romano Pontifice – pronounced by the Dean of the College of Cardinals

“Forever I will sing the mercies of the Lord” is the hymn that resounds once again near the tomb of the Apostle Peter in this important hour of the history of the Holy Church of Christ. These are the words of Psalm 88 that have flowed from our lips to adore, give thanks and beg the Father who is in heaven
