On the evening of 1st November 1876, August Buguet, a local bell-ringer, the brother of a young priest, was crushed to death by a falling bell. Soon afterwards, the priest’s two young nieces, aged just 12 and 16, also tragically died. In his prayers and in his meditations, Fr Buguet was disturbed by these deaths, and knew that God was calling him to do something about it.
