St. Boniface was born in England but went to Germany to preach the Gospel. There he was made Bishop of Mainz and founded or restored many churches in Bavaria, Thuringia, and Franconia. He is probably best known for destroying the Great Oak of Thor. Boniface lived in a land of pagans and preached the Gospel tirelessly and made many converts. He was killed by pagans in 754.
