Mexico: Pope Names Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes

The Pope on December 7, 2017, has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of the Archdiocese of México, Mexico, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, currently archbishop of Tlalnepantla. He replaces Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera, who resigned.
Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes
Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes was born on January 9, 1950, in Tepic, in the diocese of the same name. He attended the seminary in Tepic and continued his studies at the Seminaries of Montezuma and Tula. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Tepic on April 22, 1973.
He subsequently obtained a licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome (1977)
