The Communal Dimension of Forgiveness and Reconciliation

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A – September 10th, 2017
Today’s Gospel passage from Matthew 18:15-20 compels us to consider the essential elements in the process of forgiveness among members of the Church community. Matthew’s text stresses the fraternal correction of members who sin (18:15-18); the importance of the disciples’ prayer (18:19-20); and the continuous need for forgiveness that must be extended to repentant members of the Christian community (18:21-35).
At Caesarea Philippi, we learned that Peter is the foundation on which the Lord builds the edifice of the Church. Peter is entrusted with the keys of the Kingdom of heaven
