There was a large turn-out once again for another Faculty Lecture on Thursday November 10: History professor Dr. Richard Shaw spoke about St. Bede and the Irish and Easter Controversy.Dr. Shaw presented recent scholarship that shed new light on some long-standing assumptions about Bede and his deep involvement in the debate over when Easter should be celebrated. The dispute was one of the most prominent topics of intellectual and religious debate in the British Isles during the seventh and eight centuries; it is obvious from Bede’s writing that he was a supporter of the Roman Easter, dated by the Dionysian
