This Sunday’s first reading is Isaiah 62:1-5 (God will take His people who have felt “desolate” and “forsaken,” and call them “my delight” and “espoused” – engaged to Him, who intends to join Himself to Israel as a young man marrying his bride); the responsory is Psalm 96 (Proclaim His marvelous deeds to the nations); the second reading is from 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (the different gifts given by God in the Spirit); and the Gospel is John 2:1-11 (Jesus’ first miracle at Cana.)The text of the readings is available on the US Bishops website, read them by clicking here. The story of the wedding at Cana is beautiful for several reasons. It is Jesus’ first miracle, it happens at a wedding, and Jesus’ mother plays a key role.
