Ontario Catholic school board becomes first to announce it will allow GSAsPosted onAugust 22, 2012by John Laws The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has become the first Catholic school board in Ontario to announce it will allow gay-straight alliances in its schools in the wake of the Dalton McGuinty government’s Bill 13, which passed June 5th.The bill, which ostensibly aims to prevent bullying, was strongly opposed by pro-family groups and religious leaders, including Ontario’s Catholic bishops, over concerns about religious freedom and the bill’s emphasis on promoting the homosexualist agenda. The bill stipulates that schools may not “refuse to allow a pupil to use the name gay-straight alliance or a similar name.”In May, before Bill 13 passed, the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board had planned to implement generalized “equity” clubs and insisted they would not allow gay-straight alliances. But now they claim the law is forcing their hand

But there is more than one reason to question his motives: the accused brother is dead; no complaints had ever been filed against him by anyone; he did not work in the Archdiocese; the “victim” claims he did not recall what happened until 2011; and the alleged abuse occurred some 35 years ago. Those who have truly been victimized are deserving of justice

Catholic Communications, Sydney Archdiocese REPORT22 Aug 2012 New support for parents struggling to come to terms with a devastating diagnosis For any family, being told their unborn child has a fatal or life-limiting condition is heartbreaking. But thanks to Catholic Health Australia (CHA), a first-of-a-kind website now offers support, guidance, comfort and perinatal palliative care for parents and families faced with such a tragic diagnosis.”Without having experienced it personally, it is impossible to know the range of emotions that run through the minds of families when they find out their child has a condition that will result in the child’s death soon after – or even before – he or she is born,” Martin Laverty, CEO of CHA said this morning when he launched the website at CHA’s annual conference in Perth. The website, pnpc.org.au, offers parents and their families a wide range of resources, a chance to share their grief and emotions with others who have experienced the same bittersweet journey, as well as all important emotional, spiritual and practical help

CATHOLIC NEWS WORLD : QUEENSHIP OF MARY – WEDNESDAY AUGUST 22, 2012
The question underlying contemporary elections is how much a free citizenry is willing to the let the State boss them around. Well, all except Quebec elections. Here, the key query to be decided on September 4 is how much long-established native French-speaking Quebecers are willing to let the State boss other people around. As my Cardus colleague Brian Dijkema pointed out deliciously in his recent blog, we have already witnessed the preposterous proclamation by Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois that her government would regulate and inspect the hats, haberdashery, and accessories of public servants to ensure nothing they wear to work has religious significance.Madame Marois, as is her wont, immediately heightened the absurdity by insisting that Quebec’s ancient symbols of religious patrimony such as public-space Christmas trees—a 19th-century import from Prussian Protestants popularized by the British Royal Family—and the Cross in the provincial legislature would be exempt from her proposed “secularization” initiative.Much of the subsequent negative response focused on the hypocrisy of the State preserving overt Christian symbols while using its monopoly on force to strip them away from adherents of other religious faiths.
