Putting The Genie Back In The Bottle…?

Thumbnail

It has been interesting to read the responses to the excellent FIUV position paper on the restoration of the three-hour Eucharistic fast, summarised on Rorate Caeli. As pointed out by Joseph Shaw, many people only read other blog posts on the paper (such as the one by Australia Incognita), and then made all sorts of objections to the three-hour fast which had already been dealt with in the original paper.Quite a few of the comments on Fr. Ray Blake’s post seem to suggest that, since the rules have been relaxed, it would be impossible to reimpose them.I disagree. For many years, I observed Friday abstinence as a voluntary penance

Truth Telling

Yesterday I wrote a post lauding the efforts of those putting new resources into action. One of the comments in response to my post read: I think it would be good time, right now, to take a survey of how many parishes are using the Vatican II Hymnal, the Lumen Christi Missal, &c

About the Chant Café Catholic liturgical music is serious, solemn, transcendent, but Catholic musicians are never more fun and inspiring than when they are talking about what they love most.

Mass in the Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, City of Westminster, 18 September 2010″O Bread of Heaven, beneath this veilThou dost my very God conceal:My Jesus, dearest treasure, hail!I love Thee and, adoring, kneel; Each loving soul by Thee is fedWith Thine own Self in form of Bread.O food of life, Thou Who dost giveThe pledge of immortality;I live, no ‘tis not I that live;God gives me life, God lives in me:He feeds my soul, He guides my ways,And every grief with joy repays.O Bond of love that dost uniteThe servant to his living Lord ;Could I dare live and not requiteSuch love – then death were meet reward:I cannot live unless to proveSome love for such unmeasured love. Beloved Lord, in Heaven aboveThere, Jesus, Thou awaitest me,To gaze on Thee with endless love;Yes, thus I hope, thus shall it be:For how can He deny me Heaven,Who here on earth Himself hath given?”

Fr Tim Moyle’s Where the Rubber Hits the Road is a blog worth following for its variety of posts on spiritual, theological, and social issues as well as the occasional item of wider interest. The other day I picked up on his link to the world’s fastest bus, designed by engineers in the Netherlands. The bus looks more like the kind of stretch limousine that parents of little girls hire for their primary school leaving party but it has a cruising speed of 155mph
