Boyle blames a lack of donations and sponsors, along with several prominent people backing out of the convention.“The plain fact of the matter is that we have to cancel the event and spend more time and careful planning to make our 2013 convention a solid and better organized success,” Boyle said.

About the Chant Café Catholic liturgical music is serious, solemn, transcendent, but Catholic musicians are never more fun and inspiring than when they are talking about what they love most. This is what happens at sacred music events around the world: the social and intellectual are critically important elements

I’m Not Confident of Obama’s Defeat, Either

Thumbnail

For months and months, I’ve been reading about how Obama will be a one-term president in the twittersphere.Back in `96, Republicans thought Clinton would be a one-term president, too.I know Obama is bad, but Mitt Romney does not inspire love or admiration.Whereas Obama does, God help us. Right or wrong. If Romney is to win the presidential election, he will have to ratchet it up and notch.

“Some of you will be become priests”…

… I can tell my son about the importance of prayer and lead by example all day long but my words and actions will never have the same deeply profound impact as it would coming from his father. The reality is his father was rabidly anti-Catholic and hasn’t been around in eight years

WDTPRS 22nd Ordinary Sunday: graft into our hearts the love of Your Name

Thumbnail

With small differences our Collect for the 22nd Ordinary Sunday is based on a prayer in the 8th century Gelasian Sacramentary and, subsequently, one in the 1962 Roman Missal for the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost.Deus virtutum, cuius est totum quod est optimum, insere pectoribus nostris tui nominis amorem, et praesta, ut in nobis, religionis augmento, quae sunt bona nutrias, ac, vigilanti studio, quae nutrita custodias.Insero means “to sow, plant in, engraft, implant.”  I like “graft”.  Optimum is “best”, but seeing that we are applying “best” to God, we can get away with “perfect”.Our Collect summons images of, on the one hand, armies and, on the other, an orchard and vine tending.

CCC Colloquium: 2012

Thumbnail

One of the high points of last year for me was the first Colloquium of the Confraternity Catholic Clergy in Reading, we had about 60 priests turn up, with some really excellent talks from Bishop Mark Davies and Mgr Andrew Wadsworth. The rather impressive Bishop Geoffrey Jarrett, from Australia also attended. This year’s Colloquium promises to be even better, I understand our Nuncio had wanted to come but the was a clash of dates, but Archbishop Augustine Di Noia from the CDW and the newly ordained Bishop Philip Egan of Portsmouth is coming to speak, naturally, as the meeting is taking is taking place in his diocese. If you are a member of the Confraternity book here.

Lino Rulli – On Being a Sinner

Thumbnail

Dear Theophilus,It usually takes me a few weeks to write about a book I’ve read, so it says a lot about Lino Rulli’s Sinner that I feel compelled to write about it the day I turned the last page.I think I enjoyed Sinner so much because I could identify so closely with Rulli’s experiences. You only need to change Italian for French-Canadian and I think I could almost step right into Rulli’s life
