- An evening for the Canadian missions Toronto—This year’s goal is to raise $300,000 for the West Coast missions of Prince George, Victoria, and Nelson in British Columbia. For Catholic Missions In Canada’s Tastes of Heaven 2014 Gala chair and organizer Marie Di Poce, it’s a worthy and achievable goal. “This year, we look forward to breaking the $2-million dollars raised over the years by the Catholic business community to support Catholic Missions In Canada.” Toronto Cardinal Thomas Collins, apostolic chancellor of Catholic Missions In Canada, will lead missionary bishops and other church leaders who will join Toronto’s business community in an evening of friendship, spiritual nurturing, and entertainment. Bishop John Corriveau, O.F.M., Cap., of the Diocese of Nelson, British Columbia, will be the guest speaker at the gala, which will also honour this year’s St. Joseph Award recipient for outstanding missionary work, Sister Alice Walsh, P.B.V.M., of Piccadilly, Newfoundland and Labrador. Among the featured artists for the evening will be Red Sky, a traditional and contemporary First Nations dance troupe, who will perform indigenous dances. Live and silent auctions during the evening will feature unique items from mission dioceses across Canada. The Tastes of Heaven 2014 Gala will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Bellvue Manor, 8083 Jane Street, Vaughan, Ontario. In 1908, Catholic Missions In Canada (www.cmic.info) was established to foster and extend the blessings of the Catholic faith in the poorest dioceses throughout the Dominion of Canada. That missionary work continues today, 106 years later, providing over $3 million to assist over 23 dioceses serving 600,000 Catholics across Canada. Over the last 13 years, the Catholic business community has generously supported Catholic Missions’ gala, raising $1,821,400 through this signature event.
