I am just cruising right along learning Italian. Had a very exciting moment yesterday when I had a brief interaction with an Italian priest. I asked him where he was from (in Italian) and he told me (in Italian) and, what’s more he understood me and I understood him. So that was VERY special for me. He told me I could come to him for confession and say my confession in Italian. I think that is a wonderful idea.
So my Italian course it clearly working.
What I have noticed though, is that the Italian language course prefers to teach me to lie before I learn to tell the truth. I have learned such helpful phrases, which by the way, are lies, as:
I am Andrea and I live in Florence.
Io sono Andrea, abito a Firenze.
I live in Paris and I speak French very well.
Abito a Parige e parlo francese molto bene.
I don’t speak English.
Non parlo inglese.
Yes, I speak Italian.
Si, Parlo italiano.
No, I do not speak Spanish, I speak Portuguese.
Non parlo spagnolo, parlo portoghese.
As you can see my Italian lies are coming along very nicely. I translated all these lies without looking, and I even know a few more.
