This article is calling Elizabeth Warren’s senate run against Scott Brown a wreck, and I’m pretty sure that’s an accurate take. She really is an awful candidate.

What’s most interesting to me about her candidacy, though, is how thoroughly it demonstrates the disdain that the Democrat leadership in Massachusetts has for its own party members outside of the Ivy Class.

For the second election in a row, Massachusetts Dems have been so sloppily careless about who should fill “Ted Kennedy’s seat” — or they have felt so mindlessly entitled to it — that they have decided to run an overly-insulated inept, elitist, out-of-touch, rhetorically ungifted political hack who cannot speak beyond cliches and slogans and has no interest in courting the blue-collar side of the party.

Such nakedly royal disdain. No need to intellectually engage with anyone outside of their class or enclave, and no need to even hang around with the union guys or the low-wage workers.

Just as the fastidious Martha Coakley couldn’t see the point of “hanging around Fenway park” to meet all the commoners, Warren can’t be bother hobnobbing with the people who get their hands dirty; she just sends out pathetic fund-raising letters that ring hollow because they’re based on nothing but an assumption that people will fall for anything. The message these two candidacies have sent to Massachusetts voters is an old one that Hillary Clinton used to like to repeat: “you don’t have to fall in love, just fall in line”, and they’re counting on the unwashed masses doing just that.

Two elections in a row featuring women completely out of their league, handpicked by the Massachusetts Democrat leadership. They must figure it doesn’t really matter who sits in “Ted Kennedy’s seat” as long as she has a D after her name and can be counted on to vote as she’s told.

Were I still a Democrat, and were I living in Massachusetts, I’d be a bit offended by the assumption that my vote could be courted and won so cheaply.
